The principled objection to government surveillance — aka the “Surveillance State” — is the simple fact that you CANNOT hide, even if you wanted to. That’s when things get tricky and icky.
Concerns about unrestricted state surveillance was classically portrayed in George Orwell’s famous book 1984, and the movie that was later released. The problems with the surveillance state go much farther than just being spied on in the bedroom and having government agents come crashing through the window.
