The Battle for Public Education
There are a lot of parents pulling their kids out of the school system, opting to home school instead. I get it: It seems like an obvious decision for the many families who are appalled by the offensive materials and propaganda being pushed on their kids.
However, there is another perspective to consider:
There are plenty of children who do NOT have a safe and supportive home life. There are children who suffer abuse and neglect. There are children who are hungry and unloved. And, for these children, public school is a sanctuary.
It occurred to me that I could take my kid out of school, connect with other home school families, and never look back. BUT, I could not ignore the fact that so many other kids would be left to suffer and succumb to the sad state of public education.
How would that bode for future generations?
As a concerned parent, I realized that we cannot just surrender the institution of public education to the radical agenda of a vocal minority. School is a rite of passage, it is part of the fabric of American society. From playgrounds, to junior high dances, to high school sports, and senior prom, these events are some of the most meaningful moments in our children’s life.
So, rather than turn my back on the kids who don’t have a papa bear to protect them, or allow my apathy to be complicit in the destruction of one of our most valuable institutions, I decided to stand up and fight for what’s right. In my heart, I had to, and many parents across the country feel the same!
If you’re tired of the direction of public education, it’s time to get involved! Tonight the Goldendale School District will be having their regular board meeting @ 7pm. If you are ready to make change happen, please attend and participate!
