Politics, Perspective, & Personal Beliefs
There is a difference between opinion, perspective, and beliefs.
Not all ideas are created equal — just because we think something, doesn’t means it’s a good idea. Just because we believe something, doesn’t mean that it’s true. Everyone is entitle to an opinion, but not everyone gets to be right. Reality exists outside the mind.
When it comes to public policy, understanding the impact of different beliefs and perspectives is critically important. When faced with public crisis, we are at once confronted with a full spectrum of conflicting beliefs. Who gets to decide and define what’s best?
Is collective well-being or individual liberty more important? What does the science actually say? Which leading voice should we listen to?
There is no denying that our country is divided right now — that differing beliefs abound — but why do we believe what we do? In reality, we can’t all be right. All the “experts” clearly don’t agree. There IS conflicting information. Are we being lied to?
Attempting to answer these questions requires honesty and humility. It requires us having a heart-to-heart conversation, and that’s what this episode is all about!
